First Business Economic Survey Results
Please join us for a highly anticipated first look at the results of our 2018 First Business Economic Survey. With 16 years of data from local business leaders in Dane County, the First Business Economic Survey reflects local executives’ assessments of 2018 financial performance and their predictions for 2019. You’ll find out what business leaders are saying about 2018 and 2019 anticipated sales, capital expenditures, profitability, hiring, wage changes, capacity and more, and compare those numbers to years past.
Dr. Moses Altsech, president of Altsech Consulting and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will highlight the 2018 survey results. Following the presentation, Wendy Warren Grapentine, former Madison news anchor and owner of Straight to the Point Communications, LLC., will moderate a panel discussion with local business leaders on the economic climate of Dane County.

The annual First Business Economic Survey, in its 16th year in Dane County, is sponsored by First Business and conducted and analyzed by Dr. Moses Altsech of Moses Altsech Consulting. The survey now includes Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, Northeast Wisconsin, and Kansas City.

Dr. Moses Altsech holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business from the University of Cincinnati and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Altsech has served on the faculty of Penn State University, Butler University, and Edgewood College, and currently teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also the President of Moses Altsech Consulting, a Madison, Wisconsin-based firm offering consulting, research, keynote and training services to clients across the United States and overseas. With more than two decades of experience as a consultant, trainer and keynote speaker, he has been honored with more than twenty academic and professional awards. Dr. Altsech has helped companies, professional associations, and non-profit organizations train staff, improve strategic planning, conduct cutting-edge customer satisfaction and employee engagement research, serve their clients better, cope with change, and aggressively explore new opportunities for growth!
Wendy Warren Grapentine

Wendy Warren Grapentine is a former Madison news anchor and owner of Straight to the Point Communications and Tap Into Your Power. She served for four years as the Director of the Wisconsin Public Utility Institute and has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Nate Herbst is CEO of WTS Paradigm. Nate started the company in 1999 as the most innovative software company in the building products industry. An entrepreneur with nearly 20 years of experience in the industry, Nate is responsible for driving the vision of the company and positioning the technology to bring further opportunities to building products companies. Prior to WTS Paradigm, Nate was a lead consultant for Cap Gemini/ Ernst and Young where he worked on innovative projects throughout North America and Europe. Nate has been selected for many prestigious awards, including Madison’s 40 under 40, and is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization. Mike Victorson is President and Chief Executive Officer of M3 Insurance. After joining the company in 1992, Mike advanced quickly from account executive to sales manager, after which he became Executive Vice President of the employee benefits division. Mike became M3’s President in 2003 and CEO in 2005. Mike currently serves on the boards of M3 Insurance, and the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB).
Mike's community service has included serving on boards of several non-profit organizations over the years. He currently serves as a board member for the United Way, Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Community Bank, the 2:47 Network, and the Wisconsin Manufacturers Commerce Foundation Board.
Jane Wiedenbeck is the 4th generation owner of Wiedenbeck, Inc., a metal distributor and fabricator in Monona. Prior to joining Wiedenbeck 15 years ago, Jane spent time as a business and technology analyst in the utility and brewing industries, and as a manager of a technology consulting firm. She graduated with a business degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and with an MBA from Marquette University. She is active community member, currently serving on the Agrace Hospice Board and Madison College Advisory Board, and volunteers for the First Tee, Steve Stricker Foundation, and Madison Elks. Jane is an enthusiastic and passionate business leader who strives to successfully balance a drive for growth with fiscal responsibility. Under her leadership, Wiedenbeck Inc. has grown over 70% in the last 5 years and has recently completed a major expansion, adding new fabrication capabilities and 16,000 square feet of warehouse space.

Jay Loewi is Owner of The QTI Group. Jay has thirty plus years of business experience as an entrepreneur, strategic leader and general business advisor. Prior to his leadership position in the QTI Group, he led the operations of a local food products company and served a leading financial role with a major bank. In 2004 he was featured as a member of the In Business inaugural Executive Hall of Fame. He has served on numerous boards including Madison Development Corporation, Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Dane County, Camp Manitowish YMCA and Southern Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, to name just a few.
