APPLETON, WI, – May 19, 2017 – First Business held its 4th Annual Enterprising NONPROFITS event yesterday at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in partnership with the Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin and Insight Publications.

Northeast Wisconsin’s nonprofit community is integral to our day-to-day quality of life and long-term success. Enterprising NONPROFITS, an all-day, interactive conference builds synergy between for-profit and nonprofit business leaders, executive directors, business development directors, and volunteer coordinators who collaborate and share best practices.

This year’s event keynote speaker Deirdre Maloney presented “Mission Myth: Using the New Normal to Get Ahead.” Among her advice was the vital importance of operating like a for-profit business, and also taking care to fill the board chair role thoughtfully.

Among the morning presentations, Kristyna Torres-Cruz spoke about how nonprofit executives can position their brands through marketing and social media during her presentation “Shifting Your Mindset: Focused on Engaging Your Community through Social Media and Leaving the Numbers Behind.” She stressed the importance of a content calendar, targeted social media marketing, and posting only meaningful content to engage the audience.

In the afternoon, among the presenters was Valerie Johnson CEO of Habitat for Humanity in Dane County in her presentation “Stepping Up Your Planned Giving” gave attendees vital tips to fuel fundraising. She suggested attendees “Start with the end in mind. If someone refuses a donation, ask them to include your organization in your estate plan. Ask for a percentage of their estate instead of a dollar amount, and treat them like a member of your family.”

In the final afternoon session, keynote speaker Chad Hershner presented “Engaging Volunteers to Transform Donor Relations.” When extraordinary volunteers truly partner with non-profit leaders they will help to propel your fundraising efforts (and your organization) to a new level.

Enterprising NONPROFITS is presented by First Business, in partnership with the Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin and Insight Publications. For more information about the event, visit www.enterprisingnonprofits.org.
