APPLETON, WI, – May 12, 2016 – The winners of the 2016 Family Business First Awards of Northeast Wisconsin were announced at the Family Business First Awards event held at the 20th Annual Wisconsin Family Business Forum Celebration.

The 2016 winners included:

  • WINSERT, INC. – Winsert, Inc. was founded in 1977 by Stephen A. Dickinson. Stephen has since retired, but remains active as the Chairman of Board of Directors. Stephen’s daughter, Trisha Dickinson Lemery, has been active in the company since 1993 where she served in a variety of positions. Trisha is now its president and CEO. Son Stephen Paul Dickinson, is the new product engineer.
  • VAN HORN AUTOMOTIVE GROUP – The Van Horn Automotive Group has been serving the Wisconsin area for over 50 years. Since 1966 they have been a continuously family owned and operated dealer group, and are proud of the generations of family history tied into their business.
  • TWEET/GAROT MECHANICAL – Tweet/Garot Mechanical, Inc., as it is currently known, was formed from a merger of three separate companies in 1979, Tweet Brothers Plumbing & Heating, Edward Garot & Son Plumbing and Heating, and Withbroe Sheet Metal. Prior to that time, Tweet Brothers and Edward Garot & Son Company were each separate, yet distinctive, regional plumbing and heating firms that dated back respectively to 1924 and 1897. The 137 years of experience that these two companies brought to Tweet/Garot Mechanical, Inc. was unparalleled.
  • SARGENTO FOODS – Sargento Foods is a family-owned and operated business headquartered in Plymouth, Wisconsin – the same picturesque community where they were founded in 1953. They have additional Wisconsin facilities in Elkhart Lake, Kiel and Hilbert, and employ approximately 1,800 people.

First Business designed the Family Business of the Year Awards to give proper recognition to family businesses serving as the backbone of Northeast Wisconsin. These businesses have a proven track record of success in terms of sales, innovation, economic impact, profits, and employment. And due to the nature of being a family business, they believe strongly in giving back to the communities in which they live. First Business is a proud supporter of this initiative.
